The historic Larkmead estate is one of the oldest family-owned establishments in Napa Valley. Originally founded in 1895, Prior to Prohibition, they were considered one of the four great wineries in Napa Valley along with Beaulieu Vineyard (BV), Inglenook, and Beringer.

Larkmead Vineyards dates back to the late 1800s, is celebrating its 127th anniversary in 2022, and has been owned by the SolarI/Baker family since 1948. The historic Larkmead Estate is composed of 150 acres contiguous to the winery with 110 planted to Bordeaux varieties. The true character of Larkmead and its unique wines are a direct result of the topography, climate, and the exceptional geology of the soils. Larkmead manages the dramatic variation in soil types In order to maximize fruit and subsequent wine quality, which creates a diversified flavor profile. Larkmead is 100% Estate fruit; it is therefore imperative that the land is treated as an ecosystem with all factors interrelated and focus on long-term soil health. Larkmead is always seeking environmentally sound, long-term solutions that promote the natural expression of their vineyards, resulting in wine that is unique in its purity, texture, and complexity.

Larkmead is now under the stewardship of proprietors Cam and Kate Solari Baker.

Winery tasting notes:  The Cabernet Sauvignon is unique this vintage as the blend is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is comprised of parcels spanning the valley from the Vaca to Mayacamas mountain ranges, making this a true representation of the potential of Cabernet Sauvignon on the Larkmead Estate. The conditions of the spring rain, followed by heat in the summer, allowed the grapes to build high concentrations of aromas, flavors, and textures that will continue to evolve for decades. This wine can be served now but will age gracefully for the next 15-30 years. If drinking now, serve at cellar temperature and after decanting for two hours. Drink now and for the next 15-30 years

95 points, Wine Enthusiast:  This is structured, complex, dense and lengthy, a celebration of dark berry fruit that is layered and velvety smooth on the palate. Tobacco, oak and dried herb accent it with ease, complementing and contrasting in myriad ways and landing on a sophisticated finish.

93 points James Suckling Currants and berries with flowers. Raspberries, too. Medium to full body with medium tannins and a juicy, fruity finish. Soft and delicious to drink now. Drink or hold.

93 points Vinous: The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous introduction to the vintage at Larkmead. Pliant and supple, the Cabernet offers tons of near term appeal. Sweet red cherry, red plum, pomegranate, spice and blood orange infuse the 2019 with layers of nuance and complexity. Best of all the 2019 will drink well with minimal cellaring.

92 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (White Label) features fragrant notes of red and black plums, lavender and mossy tree bark, over a core of cassis and boysenberries. The medium to full-bodied palate is refreshing and vibrant, delivering an approachable texture and herbal lift on the finish.
