This week's selection : Domaine de Seuil Bordeaux Blanc 2011, a Semillon/Sauvingon Blanc blend that'll pair with most lighter fare, and is a perfect appetizer and first course wine for Holiday dinner parties!
A dry and aromatic blend of Semillon (80%) and Sauvignon Blanc from the right bank of the Garonne. Fresh, crisp and aromatic with a pale yellow color. Bouquets of citrus fruits and hints of peaches and apricots. The wine is elegant, delicate and quite vivacious on the palate. The 2011 vintage was awarded Silver from the Challenge International du Vin.
No roaming group of consultants, and no foreign or corporate owner lurking behind the scenes here.
The wines hearken back to the classics: fruit, pure natural fruit with crystalline acidity, elegance and a sense of place - terroir.
All estate fruit, hand picked, sorted (twice), and practicing organic (about to be certified). Vinified in stainless steel with no malo-lactic, this low-alcohol quaffer can hold up to Roasted Chicken and Fish with no problem!
The vines are planted on a south-facing slope over looking the Garonne river above the medieval village of Rions. . Some of the vines are up to 80 years old and yields are kept low (40hl/hectare) reflecting a preference for higher quality grapes with greater intensity of flavor at harvest time. The vineyards are predominantly gravelly slopes, ensuring excellent drainage.
Made from 80% Semillon (the oldest Bordeaux grape variety) and 20% Sauvignon Blanc), the are de-stemmed, then pressed gently in a state-of-the-art pneumatic press. Approximately 70% of the crop is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel cuvees and 30% in new oak barrels.
The wine is bottled approximately 9 months after vintage to retain all the fresh fruity flavors and aromas .
