93 Point Pinot
How About an Amazing 93 point
Central Coast Pinot for under $34?
This week's selection : Dierberg Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley 2009, a premium Central Coast Pinot that's balanced and fruity, and a perfect pairing with Salmon and other firm fish, Chicken, Duck or game.
Dierberg is a name shared by a label and a vineyard founded by Jim and Mary Dierberg, located in the southern reaches of the Santa Maria Valley on a site that has a variety of facings and soil types. The cool, ocean influenced climate of the Santa Maria Valley makes a perfect site for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Nick de Luca is winemaker. Dierberg Pinots are rich and bold with the plush red cherry fruit on the middle palate that is so characteristic of Santa Maria Valley Pinots.
In keeping with the traditional Dierberg style, the 2009 Pinot Noir is a structured wine, yet one that retains great balance, nerve and elegance.
Dark raspberry and wild blackberry notes are accented by the characteristic forest floor aromas typical of our vineyard terroir. Flavors lean towards the fresh raspberry end of the spectrum, with light mocha and complex forest floor nuances.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Dierberg Vineyard possesses remarkable depth and richness, not to mention terrific balance. Supple and generous, the 2009 offers up black cherries, mint, flowers and spices, all in a juicy, forward style. Floral notes add lift on the gracious finish. The 2009 spent 18 months in French oak barrels, 30% new." 93 Points
Pinot Report: "Medium-deep ruby color; earthy, dusty cherry aromas; deep, complex earthy cherry flavors with forest floor and toasty notes; good structure and balance; long finish. Deep, earthy Pinot that needs time to open in the glass." 90 Points
